Red Shift gallery presents a new body of work by Denver artist Kyme Vincent. Ms. Vincent’s works are representational acrylic paintings exploring social, personal and political themes. Cut into small triangles from previous original works on canvas and from unpainted canvas, Vincent hand rolls hundreds of beads, which are then suspended inside openings within the body of the new work, or suspended from the borders.
The “beads” call upon her Osage ancestry to embody the traditions and history of the art of her tribe. The beads complement and become a part of her contemporary art and commentary. The viewer is left with a historical and contemporary view of the meaning and processes of art as shaped from one individual’s cultural perspective.
Kyme Vincent has been active in the Denver Art Community for 20 years. In more recent years she has begun to exhibit outside of Colorado. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from Metropolitan State College and her work is in the permanent collection of the Osage Tribal Museum, as well as private collections.
